Exchange comparison

Best exchange for dollar-cost averaging

DCA means lots of small buys, so fees are paid again and again. Here is what each fee level would actually have cost on a real backtest, plus the recurring-buy tools to look for.

What fees really cost

Real backtest: $100.00 of Bitcoin every week from 2021-10-13 to 2026-10-12 ($26,100.00 invested), using each exchange’s fee level.

Fees vary by trading volume, payment method and country, and exchanges change them, so treat these as indicative and confirm on the exchange. Not every exchange or coin is available everywhere.

What to look for

  • Fee per buy. It is charged on every contribution, so small differences add up (see the table above).
  • A recurring-buy feature. Automation is the whole point of DCA. It removes the temptation to time the market.
  • Minimum purchase size. Weekly or daily buys are small; check that the minimum doesn’t force you into larger, less frequent buys.
  • Availability and regulation in your country. This differs between exchanges and changes over time.
  • Withdrawal options. Many long-term holders move coins to their own wallet rather than leave them on an exchange.

Frequently asked questions

Which exchange is best for dollar-cost averaging?
The best one is the one with low fees on small, repeated buys, a recurring-buy feature so you don't have to remember, and availability in your country. Because DCA means many small purchases, a percentage fee is paid every time. The table on this page shows what each fee level would have cost on a real 5-year weekly Bitcoin DCA.
Do fees matter much when you DCA?
Yes, more than for a single purchase: the fee is charged on every buy. The difference between a 0.1% and a 1.49% fee compounds across hundreds of contributions, which is why the cost column below is worth reading before you pick a platform.
Can I automate DCA on an exchange?
Most major exchanges offer a recurring-buy or auto-invest option that purchases a fixed amount on a schedule from your bank or card. Names and options differ by exchange and region, so check the exchange's own page for what is available to you.
Are these links affiliate links?
The Kraken and Binance links are referral links: we may earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you. The Coinbase link is not. Fee figures are indicative and change, so always confirm on the exchange before you buy.
This page is educational and not financial advice. Cryptocurrency is highly volatile and you can lose your entire investment. Some links are referral links, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up.
