Privacy Policy
CostAVG (“we”, “this site”) is a dollar-cost-averaging backtest calculator. This page explains what data we collect ourselves, which third-party services we use, and what cookies they set.
What we collect directly
When you run a calculation, we log the parameters (asset, amount, frequency, date range) together with your IP address hashed with a secret salt. We never store your real IP. This is used only to show us aggregated usage stats (which assets are popular, typical contribution sizes) and cannot be used to identify you or reversed back to your IP. We don’t sell, share, or otherwise use this data.
We also keep, for the length of your visit only (in your browser’s session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab), a short label for where you arrived from, such as “google” or “direct”, and the first page you opened. If you run a calculation, that label is stored with it so we can see which sources bring people to the site. We never store the full address of the page you came from.
The calculator itself works without any account, login, or personal information.
Cookies and third-party services
We only load the services below after you accept cookies in the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, none of them load, and no cookies from these services are set.
- Google Analytics (GA4): anonymised usage analytics (pages viewed, general location, device type) and a few interaction events, such as running a calculation, sharing a result, or clicking an exchange link. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Google AdSense: serves the ads on this site and may use cookies to personalise them. You can control ad personalisation across Google at adssettings.google.com.
- Coinzilla: a crypto-focused ad network that serves the banner ad on this site. See Coinzilla’s privacy policy.
Referral links
Some links to crypto exchanges (currently Binance and Kraken) are referral links: if you sign up through them we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. They are marked rel="sponsored", and a click is recorded as an anonymous analytics event (only if you accepted cookies). Nothing about your calculation is sent to the exchange.
Your cookie choice itself is stored in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie, so it isn’t sent to us or anyone else.
